Welcome to the ColourWise Colour Grading System
The ColourWise Colour Grading System is based on the HSL Colour Model (Hue, Saturation & Lightness).
HUE
The ColourWise Colour Grading System 'Colour Dial' consists of thirty-one hues.
The seven primary hues (Purple, Red, Orange, Yellow, Blue, Green & Violet) are divided into the following categories:
SATURATION
The ColourWise Colour Grading System includes five saturation levels. Saturation controls the purity of the colour and is defined as a percentage:
In the examples below, the lightness remains constant (50%) while the saturation levels vary from 20% (far left) to 100% (far right):
LIGHTNESS
The ColourWise Colour Grading System includes seven lightness levels. Lightness controls the luminosity of the colour with the 'purest colour' (50%) positioned halfway between the black (0%) and white (100%) ends of the scale.
In the examples below, the saturation remains constant (100%) while the lightness levels vary from 80% (far left) to 20% (far right):
USING COLOURWISE WITH OTHER COLOUR GRADING SYSTEMS
The ColourWise Colour Grading System (Hue, Saturation & Lightness) is fully compatible with GIA / Gemewizard and the World of Color. The chart below explains how the saturation and tonal levels can be converted to ColourWise.
